Guidelines For Writing A Diversity Essay Sample
Guidelines For Writing A Diversity Essay SampleIn a diversity essay sample, your assignment is to take on the viewpoint of a marginalized group, and explain how you've tried to improve things for them. Diversity essays generally include supporting points of view, such as the points of view of the author's own members of the group, and can use supporting quotations to make your case.Nowhere in this assignment should you use more than two to three sentence fragments, though it is usually best to keep them short and to the point. The longer the fragments are, the less convincing they are, and the more points of view are used to support the various statements. You'll want to make a good case for diversity in your essay sample, so avoid using your personal views about this topic. For example, if you're a Latino student, avoid putting down the struggles of other Latinos as a student of English literature or sociology, unless you can explain why it is acceptable to do so, and then only to th e extent that you are not stereotyping the people in the community.Keep in mind that diversity in education takes place within the confines of an academic discussion, and that academic writing requires more literary skills than everyday, writer's language. When you are writing about people or issues in the classroom, focus on the actual events rather than on the writers' thoughts about them. For example, when discussing the way that school resources are allocated to ethnic groups, use a few colorful quotes to add interest and drama to your text.If you don't have any personal experience with a minority group, or with being a part of a marginalized group, you should use this diversity essay sample as a 'point of view' essay, and then discuss specific experiences you have had with the minority group. You may even want to highlight specific quotes from the essay sample, and add your own comments about what you think of the whole project. An excellent diversity essay sample should make yo u want to help out and to explain why. As such, the essay sample should focus on the specific examples of how you have tried to be a good person and to contribute to the goals of the minority group. However, if you don't agree with the views of the minority, express your opinion. And if you're in the minority, make your point, but don't minimize the contribution that others can make to the group's goals. As you go along, you'll find that these rules for writing a diversity essay sample are a great starting point. The diversity essay samples I've found to be most effective are those that leave you feeling inspired to learn more about the world of minorities and to try to improve things for them.
